Indian Civilization, Culture and Heritage spans over 10000 years
and is in the company of some of the oldest cultures of the
World namely Chinese, Egyptian, Maya, Roman, Greek and
Mesopotamian. Many sub cultures also became branches of the
main Indian cultures in the form of Buddhism, Sikhism and
Jainism. They are now spread all over the world sharing
their unique traditions with other cultures. Cultures do not
confine to customs and beliefs, but encompass traditions of
fine arts that include music, dance, painting, sculpture and
literature, and their rich heritage in all forms. Nurturing
arts and thereby cultural values and integrating them with
our next generation is of paramount importance today. With
this underlying ethos, Fine Arts and Cultural Themes Sydney
(FACTS), a non- profit organisation was established in 2000
to promote all forms of Indian fine arts in Australia.
FACTS, stands for all the communities and ethnicity, in
particular Indian and communities of Indian Origin
irrespective of language, ethnicity, religion, caste or
creed. FACTS is a secular non-political organisation and is
entirely devoted to the promotion of all forms of Fine Arts,
Culture and Heritage, in order to preserve our past and
promote peace and harmony. Since its establishment, FACTS
has organised several successful cultural and fine arts
performances including releasing of Indian classical music
CDs, and participated in international forums and festivals.
FACTS is grateful to the community at large for its
continued support and participation in its activities. Some
of the activities of FACTS are described below.
Lalitha Kala
Bharathi FACTS, under the name of Lalitha Kala Bharati (LKB)
has been successfully conducting classes to teach light
music, dance, Vedic studies, Sanskrit, Yoga and traditional
musical instruments such as Veena, Violin and Tabla. In
addition to the members from Indian community, local
Australian population has also shown strong interest in
Lalitha Kala Bharathi. Very talented, qualified and
experienced teachers recruited by FACTS showcase their
talent every year at the institution's immensely popular and
successful annual event 'Kala Darshan'. Work is in progress
for acquiring necessary university accreditation for the
courses offered by 'Lalitha Kala Bharati' and award degrees
and diplomas. One of the major objectives of FACTS is to
acquire and build a dedicated premises to host an Arts
School, an auditorium and establishment of a library with
latest multi-media facilities in a Central Location in
Sydney within the reach of all communities.

ISHAN - Amalgamation of Arts, is a unique troupe that is revered and
applauded for its experimental and innovative dance work
making it an exquisite group beyond ordinary. Ishan
specialises in contemporary classical dance forms where the
basics of Indian classical dances are used as a springboard
to evolve a modern and unique vocabulary. "The ultimate goal
of the troupe is to discover the unknown language of
tomorrow with the wealth of knowledge gained from
yesterday," said Divya Chopra, one of the leaders of the
troupe and renowned Kathak exponent.
Ishan's pillar of strength is its
choreographer Anil Panchal, who excels in 'Mayurbhanj Chhau'
and contemporary dancing. A performer himself, Anil has
taken his work to critical acclaim in India and abroad. The
novelty of themes, picturesque patterns and zeal and
enthusiasm witnessed in his choreographies leave the
audience spellbound. His pioneering work is the result of
traditional aspects wrapped in modernity. The dance 'amalgamation' is a communication
that goes beyond language and geographical barriers; a
communication that nourishes the spirit and the soul. The style that would be brought through the
choreography will exemplify a generation, which while
remaining rooted in its rich cultural past, will carry the
dignity of centuries into the present through is
contemporary touch. The troupe has performed extensively in
various countries including Norway, Russia, Germany,
